Montserrat is a perfect day out. Montserrat has a mystic charm that is fascinating. The unique and steep mountains are an absolute highlight. You will go up in a spectacular way (by railway rack or by funicular), have a beautiful view of the landscapes of Catalunya, visit the amazing Abbey and experience the holiness and history.
Montserrat is located outside Barcelona. You will need transportation to get there. Here you can decide how to get to the mountains and how to get up to the Abbey platform. It is highly recommended to make reservations in advance.

Take the train to Monistrol de Montserrat and ride the rack railway or cable car to the top of the holy mountain.
This train leaves from plaça Espanya.
Once in Montserrat, you'll be able to visit the audiovisual exhibit "Montserrat behind closed doors". And you can enjoy the Sant Joan funicular unlimited times.
With the help of an audioguide*, a map and a tourist booklet, you can explore the most important aspects of the history of the monastery as well as the most significant areas of the Montserrat sanctuary.

What is the boys choir?
A performance in the Abbey will be presented to you to experience some of the holiness of the Abbey and to listen to the great acoustic.
What is there to see in the Abbey?
The community today is made up of some 80 monks. As at all Benedictine monasteries, the monks of Montserrat follow the Rule of Saint Benedict, devoting their lives to prayer, welcoming pilgrims and visitors, and working.
What kind of transportation to get there?
- You can get there by foot. You can take different routes from Monistrol or from Collbató.
- By Aeri (Cable car). It takes just 5 minutes. Cable cars depart every 15 minutes. There is a free parking for those reaching the cable car station by car. If you arrive by public transportation the FGC (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat) trains to Montserrat depart from Barcelona-Plaça Espanya Station every hour from 08.36 am.
- By Cremallera and train. There route covers 5 kilometres and the journey takes 15 minutes, with departures from Monistrol Vila every 20 minutes. If you go with car, there is a free car park with 900 spaces for cars and coaches at the station. But if you use public transportation, the FGC (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat) trains to Montserrat depart from Barcelona-Plaça Espanya Station every hour from 08.36 am.
- If you come to the sanctuary by car, there is car parking. Car park capacity is limited and you should pay there the established rates.
- By Bus: Autocars Julià. Departures from Viriat Street, adjoining Sants Station, in Barcelona. From Barcelona (Departure: 9.15 am) From Montserrat (Departure: 5 pm, from October to May / Departure: 6 pm, from June to September)

Tourist information point in plaça Catalunya, daily from 8.30am to 8.30pm. (Except 1st January and 25th December).

The station, funicular and "cremallera" are accessible to the disabled people.
